I think this is the best book of our generation! Speaks on several levels. This book is required reading for Marine Officers!!  It truly is that good.  It is one of those books that can be read at several levels.  For kids it is a good sci fi adventure book.  It shows the rewards for determination and innovation.  Above that it is a treatise on power.. how to recognize it, gain it and keep it!!  If you read this book five times, each time you will get more out of it.  Card has written other books that were good, but nothing that approaches the level of insight in this book.  I consider it the best book of our generation.  A must read :)
You're gonna either love or hate this book.  I (Jay) think it is the perfect quest book.  It gives a good look at both sides of the struggle and doesn't really push you to take Recommends.  The writing flows so well, it is near impossible to put down.  I do have to say that I prefer the previous un-edited edition.  It was a little bit tighter and... well, that's why editors make the big bucks, isn't it  :)
Dean Koontz is a prolific writer.  As such, high quality is not always there.  He is usually just a quick comfortable read.  I (Jay) believe that this book is the exception.  The characters are developed to the point we really care for them.  I got the book on tape for a long drive, and we ended up sitting in the van an extra half hour because everyone was so caught up with the story!!  If you only read one Koontz book, I would recommend that this be the book!

The Xanth Series by Piers Anthony Christopher and Nicholas read most of these before I did, but I think I am the biggest fan.  I think the puns are great - and how he works them into great stories is very impressive.  Pop and I are working on putting the books in order for anybody who wants to know which one to read first.
